JPS Lab's CES 2002 annual show report

Welcome to our show...

Well, we are here once again in sunny Vegas flat-footing the equivalent of many miles per day just to get to the other end of the Las Vegas Convention Center- Man this place got big since the expansion!

Tucked in at the newly added South wing, JPS Labs teamed together with the TAW dudes, aka the 'videophiles', and SLS Loudspeakers, the audiophiles, for a great show! TAW spared no expense and built a custom home theater environment for the visitors, a very cool room with built-in acoustic treatments, air conditioning, and most importantly to video, no outside light!

At the video head-end were TAW's new DVD player with a SDI digital video output (something new for us cables guys to deal with...), and their ROCK video processor, a very cool and sophisticated software upgradeable (as in internet download) unit with more bells and whistles then you can imagine for fine tuning the video source to the screen. It's a very impressive piece (even by audiophile standards) and the video quality TAW can provide is just stunning on the big screen. The TAW dudes are no doubt some serious video tweaks...

On the audio side of cool toys were a new (affordable) Philips SACD player for showing off multi-channel music, a Panasonic DVD player to spin any requests without screwing up the presentation, and drive to the amps taken good care of with a Bel Canto Pre1 digital preamplifier. Amplification was by the very nice powerful Bel Canto Evo amps spread out throughout the room running straight digital in- very cool.

                       SLS loudspeakers

SLS Loudspeakers, who are primarily known in the pro world of audio, made their debut at CES with a new line-up of products designed for home theater and 2 channel sound. They use a very cool proprietary ribbon tweeter design which can handle upwards of 1000 watts (momentarily of course) without flinching- nearly indestructible as they say. These babies were made to rock, and so feel at peace with a few hundred measly watts behind them:)... Very dynamic and open sounding as you would expect from a planer ribbon and some very fast bass drivers to match...

The whole room was of course wired with the finest cables that could be found, JPS Labs... Of course as a show goes, all 20 amp circuits dropped in one corner, so from the mains to each component, power was easily distributed with the massive 8 AWG JPS Power AC+ Outlet Centers running throughout the room. All equipment had a feast of AC with JPS power cords, from the Power AC+ Cord on the amps to the Video AC Cord on all the video gear. Ultraconductor speaker cable,  interconnect, and video cable wired this 8+ channel room, and the more refined Superconductor FX interconnects and digital cables gave a hand with the larger floor standers on the 2 channel set-up. Plenty of cool cables in one of these rooms, that's for sure...

All in all another very fine showing of products from all categories of audio and video, all under one roof. You can't beat the Consumer Electronics Show when it comes to having the finest showing of the coolest products from all over the world.
